La
cittadina di
 Spili
a
Creta
appartiene alla prefettura di
Rethymnon,
da cui dista circa 30 km in direzione sud. La costa meridionale
si trova al di là della catena montuosa costiera. I dintorni si distinguono
per i paesaggi particolarmente belli. Il monte Vorisis (878 metri)
svetta su Spili, rinomata per essere molto pittoresca.
Alla
città non manca nulla di ciò che rende completa una piccola città cretese:
negozi, supermercati, ufficio postale, banche, scuole elementari e medie, chiese
ed anche una sede vescovile.

La
taverna Antigoni si trova all'entrata nord della città, sul lato sinistro, di
fronte al supermercato Brylakis. Ad un primo sguardo, l'impressione di trovarsi
di fronte a due distinte piccole taverne è dovuta allo stile non omogeneo del
locale.
A
causa di ciò, molti avventori arrivano ad Antigoni per caso (come è successo al
web-designer, che ha scoperto la taverna mentre aspettava l'autobus). Tuttavia,
chi arriva per caso a questa taverna finisce per tornarci regolarmente, per
l'ottima reputazione di cui gode la sua cucina.

Cucina,
quella di Kostas ed Eleni, rigorosamente familiare. L'orto di casa fornisce le
verdure, cosi come le carni provengono dall'allevamento di famiglia.
Quindi
non solo i pomodori ed i cetrioli ma anche le bistecche, i souvlaki
e soprattutto il grosso spiedo che Kostas arrostisce ogni sera sulla griglia all'aperto,
hanno la stessa origine che ne garantisce la genuinità.

Il
vino (rosso e bianco!) ed il raki sono pure prodotti in casa. Quanto al menù,
spazia dai piatti a base di carne alle frittate, agli spuntini veloci ed ai vari
antipasti tipici cretesi.

Tra
tutti, spicca l'insalata di feta calda, preparata con vari tipi di peperoni,
cipolle, erbe provenienti dalle montagne circostanti e altri ingredienti che
restano un segreto gelosamente custodito da Kostas.
La
colazione è servita ogni giorno dalle 09:00; la taverna rimane poi aperta fino a
tardi, anche dopo mezzanotte, se necessario, durante tutto l'anno.

Alla
sera, non è raro incontrare ad Antigoni persone di varie nazionalità, che hanno eletto
Creta a propria residenza. Su richiesta, Kostas sarà lieto di organizzarvi una festa:
telefonategli. È disponibile musica per tutti i gusti e lo spazio è
sufficiente per improvvisare un sirtaki.
Durante
l'anno, l'evento principale ha luogo il 21 Maggio, quando Kostas e sua
moglie Eleni festeggiano il proprio onomastico.
